First time buyer checklist
1. Build the biggest deposit you can. Save as much as possible, and talk to your family early if they might help towards it.
2. Get your finances in order. Pay down credit cards, loans and overdrafts where you can. Lenders review your bank statements, so be aware of how regular spending, such as online gambling, may look to an underwriter. Tidy finances will also help your credit score.
3. Check your credit file. Make sure it’s accurate, that your addresses are correct, and that nothing is listed that shouldn’t be. It also helps to be registered on the electoral roll at your current address.
4. Speak to an expert mortgage broker before you start viewing. Brokers help you understand what you can realistically afford, manage your expectations, and get you a Decision in Principle so you can pursue properties in your price bracket with confidence.
5. Plan for the extra costs. Set money aside for legal fees and moving costs. Keep a small emergency fund too, for anything that crops up after you move in, like plumbing or repairs.
We’ll support you with round-the-clock service, right through to completion.
